How to Browse on the Marketplace
Filters that matter for finding the right handler:
- Group and breed. A working-line handler is not the same as a toy-breed specialist. Filter to handlers with documented finishes in your breed or group.
- Circuit. Local cluster, regional circuit, or national. Match handler reach to your campaign budget and goals.
- Service type. Take-out (handler shows the dog without you), owner-handler coaching, ring training only, or full campaign management.
- Track record. Group placements, BISS finishes, breed wins at majors. Handlers who win in your breed under your judges.
What to Look For When Hiring a Handler
- Real finishes in your breed. Photos of your handler with your breed in the ring, recent wins, and a campaign record you can verify with the AKC.
- Honest assessment of your dog. A good handler tells you when your dog isn't ready, when a coat needs more time, or when a different judge would suit better. Yes-handlers are expensive.
- Boarding arrangements. Most pro handlers board show dogs during a circuit. Confirm boarding setup, exercise routine, food handling, and how often you can visit.
- Conditioning and coat work. Handlers who keep dogs in show condition between weekends, not just at shows.
- Communication during weekends. Real-time updates from the ring: photos, results, decisions on whether to pull or proceed.
- Clear contract. Show fees, expenses, breed grooming, travel, day rates, and what happens to ribbons and major points. Get it in writing.
